Naps Galore
Well, I wish I had lots to talk about for what I did today, but the honest to goodness truth is, I think I've slept more than 12 hours today..
Last night was the Under the Sea dance, and my friends Ryan, Lacey and Brad came down for it. (Yes, I grabbed extra tickets for them, because.. well I can. And we had loads of extra ones anyways, so it's not THAT big of a deal...) We went there, and danced hard all night. It was super fun. Had our pictures taken, me with some residents and my 'adopted brother' Nick; I babysit his little sisters, and am their adopted big sister. They will also be my flower girls someday. I know that'll be awhile.. but they're still excited for it, as am I. They're so adorable.. Anyways, my friends were DJing the dance, so that was rad that I got to see them. Some of my residents have come up to me and told me that they were surprised and impressed with my dancing ability. Apparently, people don't imagine that I can dance. I mean, I don't think I can very much either, but others think I have moves. So I guess I'll just take the compliment. It was just funny. There was also a moment where a slow song started playing and a resident said 'excuse me miss...' I turned around at this point, he realized I was his RA, and then he said 'never mind' and hurried off. Residents are funny sometimes, I feel like they don't realize RAs are people too. Well, some of them don't.
After the dance, we all got changed and then played a game of Apples to Apples with some of the people here in Sackett, which was fun. Then we got hungry and a few of us went to Qdoba. There were all of the drunk people there from the fraternities and sororities, which was quite comical. There was one guy who was passed out sitting at a table, and then he fell out of his seat, dumbfounded. When he stood up and gained stability, the entire place started clapping for him. It was hilarious. After being there, Brad, Lacey and Ryan dropped back by Sackett to drop me off and say our goodbyes. Technically it was 3 something then, because of the 'Spring Forward' thing. And then I laid awake in bed waiting til I got the text that Brad had made it home safe, and then that was around 4ish.
I awoke today at 11:30am. Took a shower and then started working on this O-chem quiz. I don't know how to really identify sugars to be honest. I can if they're already in a Fischer Projection, but the other ones in chair conformation and the Holworth (or however you spell it) formations are confusing. After struggling with that for a few hours and referencing the book and notes and recitation stuff, I finally just wrote down my best guesses, and submitted it at 2pm. It was due at four, but I was just exhausted. I hadn't opened up my mouth at all to talk to anyone all day; and I've found that when that happens, I get really lonely, and end up being sleepy and tired. So while I was trying to do my devotionals, I ended up being too sleepy to stay awake, so I told myself, 'oh just a half hour', and set my alarm. I did that for each half hour.. from 2 til 4:30pm.. Then finally was too hungry (since all I'd eaten were the left over sour gummy worms from before the dance) and decided to walk over to West and get some food. When I got there, I had a burger, fries and a shake. And this didn't really make me feel all that much better about myself either. Peter ended up coming and sitting with me and we had a really good conversation about relationships and God and such. That was really nice. We talked about long distance relationship and just kind of where we were at in ours, comparing and sharing, for there aren't a lot of other believers who are in relationships that I get to talk to about them in such an open way.
Then I came back home, and laid in bed and actually read several chapters of my Bible. Took a quick 10 min relax session and then got my stuff together for duty. Tonight, I was going to write a letter to my friend Matt in Arizona, but I ended up crocheting my blanket for my hope chest. It's getting really big now. It's almost as long as me. And in width, it's about the width of a double, I think. I'm not entirely sure since I've only slept on twin beds.. but I think its about the same size. Cassady was kinda crazy tonight, but it was really entertaining. Some residents from E and G wing were having a pancake dinner, and they made us food, which was delicious. Nutella pancake with whip cream? I think yes. :) Plus a glass of milk... I love milk. We got the left over powdered sugar at the desk.. and we definitely labeled it as if it was a big ziplock bag of cocaine.. and he pretended to snort it.. and then put a ton of it in his hair so it looked all grey and such. It was hilarious. I had fun.
This week is reading week. I have homework that is due this week, and I'm hoping that since I have some recitations and labs canceled, that I can get it all done before Friday and then go back home for that day/night before finals. Maybe have a date day with Brad/ surprise my siblings.. I know my sister reads this, but I'm hoping she is too busy to read this currently. If you do read this Lauren, please act surprised. haha. I just feel bad that I can't attend her Dance Competition on Sunday because its right before finals and in Portland, and I should probably be studying. I kinda wanna take them out for ice cream or something, I miss them. I know I'll get to see them over spring break a bit, but still, I think it is making the effort to spend time with them even when I'm busy, that makes the difference and shows that they're more important than other things.
This week, though we don't have hall council or staff meetings, I have our Johnson Poster session to go to on Monday, and I'm giving tours of Sackett with Nick on Tuesday. So though I technically have 'the night off', I really don't and they're just replaced with other things. The Johnson Poster Session, is from my internship which I had over the summer. I worked doing de-nitrification of wetlands using different carbon sources. Basically, its a fancy way of saying, I measured the amount of nitrites, nitrates and ammonium in water, when we used different forms of carbon and compared the rates at which the nitrogen turned into nitrogen gas. We also got to develop our own assays to test for the concentrations and work with SESEY (Summer Experiences for Science and Engineering in Youth). I had a blast. I just hope I remember enough of it to give a decent presentation. It's been a loooonnnnggg while. I think I will practice and show my poster to some residents or something.
Okay, well I need to get ready for my second set of rounds and then head to bed.
Hope you had a lovely weekend. Thanks for reading.
