Weekend Duty and Radios
So, I'm sitting at the desk today is game day here at Oregon State Campus. We're playing Arizona State and it's been a close game so far. We get to use the radio today because of the increased amount of people on campus using phones, so sometimes our duty phones don't work. The radio is our back up communication line, and we've been having trouble alarms today with the fire panel. (Mostly the batteries in smoke detectors being replaced) That was a bit annoying and having to ask to silence the trouble alarm. There are also a lot of people out here tailgaiting since we live right by the stadium. It's ridiculous how rowdy adults can be. I understand game days are fun, but I wish they would be good examples for our undergraduates living here on campus on how to be responsible drinkers.
On the bright-side, while being here on duty I've been confined to the building, and there isn't really a ton to do, so I've managed to clean my room, vacuum, put away laundry, wash dishes, go shopping and get all of my necessities with a half off coupon (booyah saving money!!) and also got to do some engineering studying for an exam I have on Monday since I bombed the other one I had. I also got to clean my bathroom with my suitemate so that was good to get that done and have some bonding time. We rarely get to chat, so it was nice getting to talk with her.
I also got some quality cuddle time in with Karl while watching How I Met Your Mother. We're on Season 2 finally, so that is nice. They get really addicting and I end up saying, we'll do homework after this episode, and end up watching two or three of them before finally getting to work. But today, I managed to do that hardcore studying for thermo. I did 3 decent sized problems and started on a fourth, which I'll finish tomorrow and took up both big white boards in my floor study lounge. I also did my bulletin board last night while I was on duty (printing and gluing it) and today I got to put it up. I did 'What are you most looking forward to for winter break?' and it is an interactive board where people can place a pin in the area which they vote for. So, I'm glad I got that done. I also have my Bible as Lit midterm on Monday which I'm going to review my notes and organize them and study for this evening and tomorrow. I also need to review some lecture slides for Nanotechnology which I have an exam for on Thursday. This is just the week of exams. I still have Transport homework, but I have no idea how to do it. The problem is there is a 4x4x8 cm stick of butter on a 30 degree Celsius plate and we're given the density of the butter and the stress eqn of butter. We then have to determine at which angle the butter will slide off when it is a) on the 4x8 side and b) on the 4x4 side.
.....
I have no idea what the heck it is I need to do. Such is my life in engineering classes. Everything else makes sense in my other classes.
Anyways, I can't really think of much else to write. Life seems to be pretty boring and just difficult due to homework and exams and such, but I feel like it is getting better. At least, I hope it is. I'm getting better at studying, so I hope I do really well on this exam.
Thanks for reading my ramblings. I wish I had more uplifting and inspiring things to say...

Hey mary,
ReplyDeleteFor fluids #2, set up a force balance (like physics) and solve for alpha (the angle). You set the du/dy term to zero since it isn't moving. Let me know if you need more help. -Audrey O
Sounds like you're being bombarded with school work. At least Christmas break is near :)
ReplyDeleteAudrey, Thanks! Sorry, I don't usually check this too frequently, I just forgot that you force is pressure/area with the butter and such.
