To My Husband
Well hello there,
I certainly haven't blogged in.. oh dear.. years? Has it really been that long? Eek. Well, I guess that is what happens when life comes at you fast!
Well, this blog won't be a life update or what I'm up to. This is more to honor my adoring husband, who is currently in classes at Grad School. I haven't seen him since this morning when we waved goodbye at the entrance to my work. You see, we have the exact same route to work/school in the morning up until I turn into the parking lot for my work, so we always wave good bye. Usually I'm a bit of a speed demon so I pass him or start out in front and then we wave at each other through the mirrors at each stoplight we get stuck at. (sorry, we're kinda cute like that).
Well, Karl, this is for you (because I'm faster at typing and didn't have the time to practice calligraphy again to write you a cute note.)
Dearest Karl-bug,
I am so proud of you. I'm so happy that you passed your social studies exam today! I told you that you didn't have to worry one bit, but it is normal to get nervous. I just want you to know that I'm ever so grateful that you are my other half. You make things that are so difficult for me look effortless. You're recollection of text and books is remarkable. Your cognitive skills and ability to form a strong argument are unparalleled.
Even though you are witty, sarcastic, and intelligent, I've been so blessed to see the softening of your heart and soul. I'm so happy to be the person you choose to shower your love with. Thank you for loving me, forgiving me, comforting me, reassuring me, and encouraging me. Thank you for being my teammate. I'm glad that we know it is us against the world, and not us against each other. I'm blessed that we know the only competition to have in marriage is to out-serve or out-bless one another.
I know I can be unreasonable at times, or overly emotional. Thank you for your patience. Thank you for loving me like Christ loves the church. Thank you for setting the example for me and challenging me to be a better version of myself. Sometimes we get in our moods where we are both down in the dumps and neither of us is there to lift the other up, but either way, I am glad that wherever I go, or whatever we are going through, I know I will get to have you by my side. Thank you for being a goof and making me laugh and giggle at whatever ridiculous thing you did to lift my spirits. You are my best friend and I'm so happy I got to marry you.
Thank you for playing videogames with me, playing cards with me. and putting up with me when I behave like a cat. Sometimes I just want to be left alone, but the minute you do I immediately want/need your attention. You are such a good sport with all of my nonsense.
I'm sorry I'm always in the way, especially in the kitchen. I don't know how I find the wrong spot to be in every time, but it is my curse apparently. Either way, I love cooking meals together and spending time working to create something delicious. I love seeing you get in the zone while you're cooking Chinese food, even if it means I'm right behind you cleaning up all the dishes and tidying the counter. That is what teamwork is about. :)
While everything right now is good, I'm very much so looking forward to this upcoming year. I'm excited for you graduating and getting your Master's degree and getting a teaching job. I'm excited for the new challenges that await you but also know that it will bring you great joy being a teacher full time instead of a student & a teacher. I know that whatever school you get hired at you will do wonderfully. I look forward to getting to be a part of a community through the school with you. I also hope that this will be the year we get to look for houses! I won't get too excited, but I'm happy that we will get to share that moment if/when it comes, Lord willing. I'm so so so proud of you!!
Though this is our 4th Valentines together, we're coming up on having been together for 5 years! I still sometimes can't believe that we're married because life seems too good to be true. Things can be hard, but we have always had one another to lift each other up and remind ourselves that the Lord is our strength and has not failed us. I look forward to persevering through the tough times together and to continue to edify one another.
Thank you for being my other half. Thank you for loving me. Thanks for being my Valentine.
I love you and could not have asked for a better partner.
xoxo
