Slow Saturdays..
Today has been probably the most social/fun day I've had in awhile. Last night I chose to take a nap after my classes because I had been falling asleep in them and was just relieved to be done with midterms/tests til finals week. So since I had taken a nap, I chose to stay up late, making bulletin boards, doing laundry, and watching Tangled with some of my residents. I adore my residents so much these past few days. Not that I didn't before, I just feel I'm finally starting to become friends with them and that I can begin to trust them with parts of who I am. It's nice to open up that door to deeper conversation, for then they too can share what is on their mind. Which is always nice.
Since I stayed up past 2 last night, I decided to see how long I could sleep in today. I managed to sleep til about 1pm. That's quite impressive. So once I was up I made a list of things I needed to do. My room looked like a bomb had gone off.. at least with bulletin board papers, homework, books and review guides all strewn about. My clothes that were clean were never folded and put away. I had multiple jackets and pairs of shoes on different chairs and under my desk. It was just atrocious. So before I could get any work done, I put on my Christmas Pandora station and did some hardcore cleaning to 'Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies'. It was a great productive afternoon. I went and took a shower and ate some breakfast/lunch. I checked my mail and got a letter from a dear friend who switched from OSU to ASU. It was one of the best letters I'd ever received. The fact that he asked questions that were loaded gave me tons to write about; it was wonderful. He even drew me a cute penguin in a beret which made me giggle. It was just a nice unexpected thing, so I responded to it promptly. (Also in a means to procrastinate.. but I was more excited to just have gotten a letter.)
Aside from that, I've just been super social and fluttering around and talking with all of the residents and their dads. Its so adorable to see people with their dad's and their similar mannerisms. Or just how happy they are to have their family around. My dad didn't come this weekend, I didn't really tell him, nor do I think he would've wanted to come even if I did. I've never really had much hang out time alone with my dad before. Growing up, he never really came to any of my events. And I was talking with some residents about this over dinner.. It really frustrated me that he would brag about how great of an athlete I was when I was younger. I mean, I played soccer for10 years, and he came to about 2 of my games in that whole time, yet he continuously encouraged me and would brag about me, yet he never saw me play. Same thing academically, he only came to my graduation and my NHS induction. I mean, I should be glad that I even have a dad. I just wish he had been more involved. Your actions of support of a person, mean more to me than your words of encouragement or support. Actions>Words. It also made it hard that he drank a lot, for which I have little respect for him in that regard. But now that he has retired and I've gained respect from him from my hard work in school and my internship that I had over the summer also through my job as an RA and how I handle situations. I've also decided that he probably doesn't have the same perspective on our relationship and I'm just putting up walls, and instead I should break them down and try to have the best relationship possible with my dad. And so, over the past two years, that's what I've been doing.
Anyways, enough of my 'dad' venting.
I've just really had a happy weekend conversing with so many different people and getting to actually feel free to share and speak my mind. Making loads of paper snowflakes and doing things that aren't necessarily school or homework related. I guess it just reminds me of the fact that I love people and ultimately I want to help them out and see them succeed to the best of their ability and help them achieve their dreams and goals in life. I somehow manage to find the good in people and always hope for that piece to be brought out in them.
Ah well, I suppose I ought to start doing the engineering, physics and math homework that are all due on Monday and Tuesday of next week. Make it a nice breeze of 3 days and then my family will come and pick me up for Thanksgiving break. They'll finally see my room! They haven't seen it since I kinda moved myself in this year between my summer job to fall RA position. (With the lovely help of Randell and Kaaren and some gentlemen RA's of course!)
*sigh* Time to do some work! Hope you're having a lovely weekend and enjoy what is left of it. Make sure to take some time to yourself at some point and just enjoy being you. :)
