Boring, Uneventful, Probably Not Worth the Read..
Well, here I am. Sitting in Sackett, all alone, and its kinda creepy. I'm not really a fan of being here by myself and doing rounds all on my lonesome. It's a bit eerie. I'm enjoying the time spent in prayer, reading my Bible, getting door decs and bulletin boards done, (well I'm going to, get them done, they aren't at the moment) as well as just time away from people. I think that is my favorite. Time to think, seek the Lord and just learn to use my time wisely.
I got a letter from my friend Matt again. Ah, he is one of the best letter writers around. :) I really appreciate his words of encouragement and advice. I'm gonna reply to him sometime while I'm on duty in the next two days. I've been in the process of making plans for once I'm free of family/social obligations. So far, gonna go to the movies and watch the new Sherlock Holmes film, hang out with a friend from my RP group. (Role playing). She is the only other girl in our campaign, so we're gonna have some girl time. (Yay no testosterone!!) Then I'm gonna chat with some friends before going to a College Group Night, and then I'm going to have a baking day/book swap with one of my friend's older sister. I still need to plan my bowling day with Stacia though. And I need to figure out when we're having our RP campaign day, because I need to bake a double batch of 'Crack Cookies' for it. (I giggle to myself everytime I use that phrase... ) I'm pretty excited for my plans.
So far, I've just been spending time making my bulletin board and reading and napping. It's been rather uneventful. That and texting and talking with people a lot. I've kinda had to be an encouragement to one of my friends for he is going through some struggles right now. And whenever there is something happening in one's life that one doesn't care for, like the giving up of something, I always end up thinking of the Abraham/ Isaac passage, where Abraham is told by God to take his son Isaac and sacrifice him. Abraham doesn't ask why, or if there is anything else he can do in place of this, he just gets up and goes. Sometimes things in our lives are like this. We cling too tightly to the things in our lives, and we end up making them idols, as we place more value in them than God. We love that thing, or person, or idea, more than we love God. This can be a multitude of things. A significant other, a sport/hobby, the idea of marriage, a job, money, school/grades, friends, videogames, I could think of more, but I think these are just ones that I've experienced through the years. God will take you through points where He asks you, 'Am I more important?' for each of these idols, and it then becomes a daily sacrifice. We may be unwilling to do so, and if you notice this, you may want to ask for a change of heart, and ask Him to sculpt your desires and ability to surrender this or that to Him. Ask that He would become number 1 in your life. It is something I've had to do multiple times. And I always get served a big piece of humble pie. Though its a tough process, its one that comes up time and again. Okay, I will step off of my soap box now.
So the books I need to read over break are, When God Writes Your Life Story (I may finish this one tonight or tomorrow, depending upon how long it takes me to get to bed tonight), Harry Potter #7 The Deathly Hallows, Matilda, The Shack, Showdown, In His Steps, Hiding Place, Tramp for the Lord, and well, others. haha. We'll see how far I get. I also have books I lent to people that I kinda want back for I want to read them. That's the sad thing, I bought books, and lent them out before I read them... I knew that was why I wait to lend them out, because then I worry that I'll never get to read them. I think that is one of the things I don't like to share.. Unread books that I own. That along with food. I'm a little weird like that. I don't eat much food, but when I get some, I don't like to share it.
Goodness, its so cold here! It's colder in my house with my family, but I'm always so cold. I have to read in my bed because I freeze if I don't, and then I end up falling asleep. I need to figure out a way to combat this issue. My heater just made weird noises turning on.. that lovely clanking of the heaters in Sackett.. Maybe it knew I was complaining.
Alright, well I'm gonna go cuddle with my blanket and read and text this boy. :)
I'm excited for after Christmas.

I should get your mailing address, I like writing letters and I think you'd be a fun pen pal.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I find the story of Abraham and Isaac to be one of the cruelest and immoral stories in the entire bible that casts Yahweh in a short of egotistical megalomaniac I wouldn't trust with a pair of kindergarten safety scissors, let alone the tools of creation.
Also, in amusing thoughts, the recaptcha word for posting that comment was 'wrath cookie.' I have no idea what a wrath cookie is, but it sounds delicious.
ReplyDeleteWhy do you find it to be one of the most cruel and immoral stories? I understand the fact that sacrificing ones own son is a bit on the frightening side, but I feel that this was the physical representation of the verse Luke 14:26 and Matthew 10:37, where they say (respectively) "If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters-yes, even his own life- he cannot be my disciple." and "Anyone who loves his father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves his son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; .."
ReplyDeleteGod searches the heart, and what we feel for Him, must result in action. God had already promised Abraham a son and that his offspring would be as many as the stars (Gen 15:5) and that out of his lineage would be many nations (Gen 17:5) He knew that even if God did have him kill his son, he still had this promise that God had given him.
I just find it a really great passage to turn to when I am being stubborn about giving something up to God, which is generally something a lot less meaningful to me than what a son would be to me.
And who are you? I love having pen-pals.
Been away from home so I couldn't reply.
ReplyDeleteI find it cruel because people claim that this all loving god went to abraham and said "I am commanding you to kill your son." Abraham does this, without question. (Something I would not do. If a god came to me and said to kill my offspring, I would tell him to fuck off.) Moments before Abraham kills his son, an angel swoops by and says "Righto, you don't have to kill him, we were just checking how much you would listen to God."
I don't care what promise you made to someone before hand, bringing them to precipice of killing someone, just to see how loyal they are is a horrible act. If a human did it, we would consider that person immoral and crazy. Somehow, if a God does it, it's kosher? Fine, subscribe to that idea, but don't come to me in the next breath saying your morals or morality comes from that same god. I know you Mary, you wouldn't force people to nearly murder their offspring to prove how much they love you.
Also, this is Harrison.
