Superbowl Weekend
Hey there. It's definitely been awhile, and I've been bad about writing as often as I used to. Life has been pretty busy as of late. I was on duty this weekend. (note: this was my last weekend duty for this term and it's the beginning of week 5 and I only have one more Thursday of duty. I'm so stoked and excited!)
Today was/is our Superbowl party. I did a vast majority of the driving to and from places for all of us RAs. Mainly because I love my car and like driving. I accidentally ran a red light today and I felt pretty bad about it. Don't tell any cops though. Please? I have some stupid moments occasionally and was more embarrassed and scared for the safety of my passenger and myself. We made it and the party has been quite a hit. Jenny and I were in charge of drinks, and I've learned that.. Well I must've been a bartender in another life because I make some pretty dang good drinks. Austin asked me to make him something.. I asked what he wanted. He told me a 'Sour Squirtle'. (Now if your wondering what is a Squirtle? It is a poke'mon. You should know this. It's one of the originals.) I asked him what would be in one? Blue raspberry, lemonade and sierra mist. So I made it. Dang was it good. After I told people about it, everyone wanted one. I also just 'surprised' people and they enjoyed it and liked it. I have to be careful when I make drinks though, because I have a horrible sweet tooth and always make sweet drinks.. But I think people liked them for the most part. Some said I should set out a tip jar.. I really liked that idea. haha. It's been quite successful and there are so many residents here. During the halftime show I watched "I'm Elmo and I know it" instead of the show. I'm sorry, but I'm not really a Madonna fan. And it was a comical parody. I recommend it. It's by LMFAO.
I've been trying to do homework for awhile since I'm on duty tonight as well, but I didn't get much done. I have the general idea on how to do the problems but I don't have my graphing calculator and a function that can fit the 4th degree polynomials to the points I've plotted.. I think that's more of an excel problem though. I'll have to ask for some help maybe.. but we'll see. So, since I couldn't get that done, I'm blogging since I haven't done so in a long while.
My posts from earlier were all pretty sad sounding and I was just quite pitiful to be honest. I was being quite self centered in my thinking, but I've got it all figured out now. I've done a bit of surrendering to those things and just have been filled with joy with all of this sun. It's ridiculous how much more happy I am with just a bit of sunlight and not having to wear a jacket 24/7. I think it was also with this human feeling of desiring appreciation and love and such. I had just not been feeling it.. but as of late, residents have been fantastic and I've apologized to the resident to whom I was very grumpy with at the 4am lock out call. She was apologetic as well. I've talked things out and just confronted my fears; I find that being honest about how I feel and apologizing and asking for forgiveness is the best way I can deal with a situation.
I'm amazed at the peace I've had lately with all of the stuff that is going on. I have 2 midterms this coming week, Differential Equations (which I'm getting C's on all of the quizzes currently) and Organic Chem (which I did bad on the first quiz, but this second one I submitted today should've gone better). Anyways, I need to study for math a frick ton(yes, this is an actual amount. I'm an engineer. I know measurements of things) I think I'm going to be using Khan Academy on Youtube to study. haha. I've heard it does great things. So I'll be doing that to study. I just need to finish the homework that is due tomorrow and Tuesday before I start to study for the test that is Wednesday and then Chem on Thursday. Plus more engineering homework due on Friday. At least my RA duties should be thinning out soon.Just finished bulletin boards yesterday. We have all staff this coming weekend where we have to be back in the building by 10pm, but Brad, Seth, Annie (Seth's girlfriend) and Austin are all coming over to Sackett and we're gonna watch Pulp Fiction since neither Seth, Brad or myself have seen it. It's going to be a fun weekend I think. :) I just want to make it through this week with good grades.. like B's. That'd be nice.
Next week, I have like.. nothing. No midterms, just homework and the Recycled Fashion Show. I'm a model for one of the residents who is in apparel for her major. I'm excited, yet nervous, because I'm kinda bad at walking in heels. Then that weekend, Brad and I are going to have Valentine's Day date. We're going to go to OMSI since we couldn't go the other time due to the snow and ice. I've got his present for him. I won't say what it is, because he sometimes reads this. :) I'm excited because I've been working on being craftsy. Just by being an RA my ability to wrap gifts/make gifts is so much better than it used to be. I feel like.. I'd be a great kindergarten teacher. Haha.. I make bulletin boards.. gifts on a budget.. make simple things seem extravagant.. (at least.. I think I do). I don't know, I just feel like I'm actually growing in this job, which is great! And I'm glad for such. It is good preparation for being a parent I think. Not that I'm people's mom or anything, but I do tend to have maternal characteristics...
I'm finally starting to feel close to residents, like, I can tell them who I am, and not worry about it and they'd still respect me and understand when I shift into my 'I'm on duty' mode. I'm free to be myself. I'm not nervous about being dorky or awkward around them. They appreciate me. Ahh.. its a wonderful feeling. I had left over ice cream from my Sundaes and Syllabi event, and invited people to bring a spoon and bowl to my room and we would finish off the extra.. I definitely had like.. 20ish people come by my room. I even got in trouble by the other RAs on duty for being too loud past quiet hours. I found it comical. :) But I finally felt a part of something, and with the Superbowl thing too; I like having events where I get to put something together so that other people can be joyous or happy and enjoy themselves. It was/is quite awesome. I've also been able to just chat with residents on a more personal level and helping them deal with issues with roommates and academic things and stuffs. I'm good at helping with homework a lot.
Yeah, life is pretty dang good. Wrote 3 letters yesterday, but I'm out of stamps and can't send them yet. I'm just pretty happy and blessed. Everyday I thank God for the wonderful people who are actually interested and care for my life and how I am doing and are actually willing to listen to my long 'to-do' lists of accomplishments for the day. And I'm glad for those who ask what my thoughts are on things rather than just what I do. You know, the conversations that are actually about 'How ARE you?' and they want the honest answer.
(Side note: That is one of my pet peeves. If you are going to ask how someone is.. you better be ready for an honest answer and for someone to dump out how they are feeling on you. So if you ask an honest question, be ready for an honest answer.)
And with that, I need to pack up my homework and go get ready for a night of duty!
I wish you well and that this coming week goes wonderfully.
Thanks for reading!
