Birthday Beach Trip!

My weekend has been quite spectacular and not productive in the slightest. Such is the price for having a celebratory weekend.

Friday night was pretty rad. I had finished my Statics homework and got things ready for my Henna Party. Who knew that otter pops from childhood memories and the chance to draw temporary tattoos could draw so many people! It was pretty successful and I think everyone had a lot of fun. Here's a picture of the henna tattoo I had done. :) Phil. 4:6-7 is one of my favorite verses so I figured why not?

After this I went to have dinner with some friends/residents and then I managed to convince them to go over to Cascadia with me to go buy chocolate for my sister's arrival. I also told my friend Sam, who works over in Peet's Coffee, that I would come say hi. Plus, Karl lives over there and I told him to come down and meet us. He then joined our group and we went off to play Apples to Apples. I always like to pretend that the cards you get are words that describe who you are. So, here is a list of describing words for me. I chose to interpret 'ancient' as 'old fashioned'. (Others disagreed, haha.)

Then we went to the Indiana Jones/Sleepover event that was put on by my colleagues where they had a chocolate fountain, strawberries, bananas, pretzels, gummy worms and bears, marshmellows and other delicious things. The group Karl and I were hanging out with ended up going for a walk to the covered bridge, but we stayed and watched the movie and continued to eat food. We then went to Casino Night which was put on by RHA (Residence Hall Association) which was fun to watch. There was a hypnotist and everyone was playing games and stuff. For me, it wasn't too exciting because I don't really believe in hypnotism. People still do stupid stuff when they 'think' they have an excuse to. It's... entertaining.

Then after this we came back and hung out for a bit and chatted, and then I realized that I had some of this fancy cheese that Alexander had bought while we were at Cascadia still with me in my bag! So I texted him and he said that they were going to have cheese and crackers and play cards and that he was going to come pick it up and we were invited to join them. So Karl and I joined them all, only I brought my Cribbage set so Karl and I could play that while they played poker and stuff. It was getting to be quite early in the morning, and we were all very loopy. We watched silly things on youtube and I was quoting Marcel the Shell with Shoes on, so we watched it. And then we watched the Llama song, which I laughed so hard that I cried. (I was REALLY tired). At that point I decided I needed to go to bed. For Saturday was the day I had been looking forward to all week, and I needed my rest if it was to be awesome.

My sister came over yesterday for our awesome birthday beach trip celebration. She arrived around 10:30am ish.. And we got all of our things together and hopped in my car, plugged in coordinates to my GPS.. and set out. Only to find that it wanted me to take some back road which lead to a dead end, and then we had to retrace our path and get back on track... At least it was scenic and beautiful.

The first stop for us was Mo's. We were getting pretty hungry, for neither of us had eaten breakfast and it was well around 12 by the time we finally made it. My sister had never had Mo's Clam Chowder, so that was what we were there for. However, neither of us eat a ton, so we split that (Cannonball Bowl style. AKA, giant bread bowl with clam chowder) and a lovely appetizer of deep fried zucchini. It was delicious. We also saw Dobie, our high school counselor there. She also played the piano for the musicals I was in when in high school as well. We said hello and chatted and noted how small a world it is.

After eating we browsed a few of the shops. Mainly Jambo's with all of their cool hippie stuffs. I ended up buying a cool blanket that is perfect for the drive-in back in Dallas and it's pretty big. It was only $11. I also got this thing for Seth since I've never gotten him a birthday present, and I won't get to see him this year on his birthday either since he'll be out of the state. I was going to say 'half birthday' but I'm still late for that too as it would've been in March. It was this cool decorative wooden things with a saying on it. And it was a 'KEEP CALM and wear sunglasses.' He's my hipster friend and I thought it was perfect for him. So I bought it while I had the chance. I put a little note for him in the back of it and wrapped it and made one of my oh-so-crafty homemade bows to put on it. He liked it. :) I gave it to him today before church.

Oh, back to my beach story. After Mo's we headed out to the Hatfield Marine Science Center since Lauren had never been there either. We got to touch the octopus and pet fish and sea anemones and other fun things. Mostly just meandering and looking at exhibits. It was my third time there, so it wasn't too exciting for me. Mostly I'm that weird girl who likes to talk to the kids when their parents are being unresponsive to their questions and such. One girl asked if her mom wanted to see the blue starfish, and her mom was just not listening or didn't care. So I said, "What? They have a blue starfish? Can you show me?"  I think her mom was relieved to be honest. I love little kids and getting to foster their excitement over new fascinating things.

After the science center, we were off to the lighthouse. It has been on my bucketlist to go and visit a lighthouse because there is a song by Hush Sound called Lighthouse, and it's kind of eerie, but I absolutely adore it. So we went up and climbed to the top of that and looked at the beautiful lens that was crafted and shipped from France. It amazes me how intelligent people were and the things that they created before GPS was available. They had 11 lighthouses on the Oregon Coast, each with their different light patterns so that way captains could identify where they were at on the coast within 20 miles. The pattern of the Yaquina lighthouse was 2 seconds on, 2 seconds off, 2 seconds on, 14 seconds off. It was really impressive. That and how much work a lighthouse keeper had to go through. Hauling up that oil up so many stairs and keeping lookout. They got paid more than teachers back in the day.  Here is a view from one of the windows in the lighthouse.

We ended up spending some time out on a bench by the parking lot just reading and enjoying the beautiful sun. And then we drove back to Corvallis. We went and had dinner at Bing's and ate Calzinis. Well, this was after I took a nap and she stayed up and read. Then we hung out with some friends of mine (all whom I had played Apples to Apples with) and we watched Dumbo. Karl came to and then we watched The Devil wears Prada. And by that time, Lauren and I were exhausted and went to bed.

This morning we went to church along with Mackenzie and Seth. I drove us all. We came back had lunch and I gave my sister a huge hug and helped send her off with her directions on how to get home.
I love that girl so much. I'm excited to see where the Lord takes her and what He teaches her. I know she will do great things, and she also has a heart for missions. I'm hoping some day I could work with her in the field of mission work. That would be spectacular.

Anyways, that was my crazy social weekend. But now this week is ridiculously busy because I have so much work to catch up on because I've been having fun all weekend. Tues- CBEE HW, E.Fundees HW, COMM 111 Midterm, Wed - Tech. Writing- Annotated Bibliography, COMM 111-Manuscript Speech, Thurs- CBEE Lab, Fri- Statics, COMM 111 Informative Speech. Weekend- Bulletin Board is due and it's Toshia's baby shower in Portland.
Life is busy and good. I'm excited to get it all done and make it through the week. It'll be worth it.
Thanks for reading!
