Procrastination.. (Hasn't this already been a title before?)

Well I just got back from going to the Saturday Market, and I should really finish up my paper for Technical Writing, but it's not due til 5pm on Monday, so I have time, right? That's what I keep telling myself at least. I should probably quit lying to myself, but all of these fun events keep coming up that I just NEED to go to. End of the year BBQs.. last time to go to the Saturday Market with Seth, spending time with residents, etc. These are times to be cherished, not to say no to and instead go write a paper. I can write a paper in the wee hours of the morning when everyone else is getting sleep.

Yesterday was the last day of 'class', but I only had one class. That one class being my statics recitation at 8am. My classes at 10 and 11am were cancelled. (I really wish that the early one would've been cancelled so I could've slept in, but it never happens that way.) So I went and finished up that last class, then I went to the library to finish my last statics assignment with Seth and Nitzan where Rachel and Charles joined us and they did physics. After that was done, I came back to my room and did a bit of work.. but I started to get hungry and I ended up going and saying hi to some of my guy residents down on the first floor. I asked if they were hungry and how much money they had on their meal plan. They all had like.. $30 to last them til next Friday. I had $400 on my card and offered to buy them food, so I took them all out for a lunch/dinner and we chatted for a bit. Then I came back to my room and Andrew Pfau texted me asking if I was going to the CBEE BBQ. Now, I hadn't really planned on it, for though I love my fellow CBEE-ers, I always feel out of place, or inadequate. They're all so smart and have awesome plans for the summer, where I didn't get an internship and instead I'm working in housing for the summer. I just feel like I'm not quite as good as everyone else. However, Andrew wanted someone to go with him (you know, to fall back on for conversation if you can't chat with anyone else or know anyone else..) so he came over and picked me up. Granted, I had just eaten and was very hungry, I went for the social aspect of the BBQ.

We went there and I actually enjoyed myself. It was really cool because there were a lot of us Johnson Interns from last year who were all there and we sat together and chatted. A lot of them are all CBEE club officers (another thing I feel I should've done, but never did because it would just be another time commitment...) and helped put on the event. Our TA from CBEE 213 lab was there and my TA from CBEE 212 was there too. It was funny because as we were leaving we saw them playing football together with one of those nerf ones that whistles when you throw it and they both had huge smiles on their faces like little school boys. It was kinda adorable. I kept wanting to go play on the swings and stuff, but it was rainy, and I didn't want to be judged for going and playing on them. I'm sure other people were wanting to as well, they were probably thinking the same things I was. Alas, I left the BBQ having not played on the play equipment. Maybe when I have a bit more confidence I'll do so.

When I got back from the BBQ, Karl texted me and said he was going to West Dinning with the Chinese RAs who are here on exchange to have dinner and that I was welcome to join, because after they'd be leaving for the Dallas Drive-in and I wouldn't get to see him. (Technically I haven't gotten to see him much this whole week. He is going on exchange to Hong Kong, China and currently he is hosting the RAs from China and showing them around the area. They got to go to Newport, the Drive in, Woodburn Outlet, Portland, etc, so I haven't gotten to see him much because whenever he isn't showing them around, he's doing school work or catching up on sleep because he's exhausted. Funny thing, I encouraged him to apply for it and he got it. I'm so happy for him!) So back to story, I went to dinner with them, but me going to 'dinner' after having two meals within about an hour and a half of each other I just brought my paper and sat there and was drinking tea and writing while waiting for them. They came, sat ate, chatted, and then left.

Then as I was headed back to my room to finally study, (this was around 7:45pm almost 8) I heard someone playing piano in our soft lounge and singing. It was Matt, Bryce's boyfriend. He always sounds so good, so naturally I come over and sit and listen and then when he is done we start chatting. He was waiting for Bryce to come downstairs and we were all talking and stuff. I was going to head back to my room, and I see Sydni sleeping on one of the couches, and I ask, is she sleeping? Bryce runs over to her and then tickles her and wakes her up. She wasn't too happy, but she got her things and we were both going to leave. She was going to go to bed, and I was going to study, but then Matt and Bryce started singing the 'Hallelujah' song, and I looked at her and asked if she wanted to join.. So we ran over there and started singing the most beautiful harmonies I've ever been a part of. It was so wonderful. We did this for almost and hour or so. And eventually Bryce and Matt were off to have fun. (It was Friday night.. I don't expect anything less. haha) So Sydni and I were there and we just started chatting about life and God and relationship and love. Oh it was wonderful. I seriously miss talking with her. She was our Hall Council President and we would meet for lunch every other week and have these talks, and it's been 8 weeks or so since we got to have a talk, so it was much needed. I seriously view her as a friend more than a resident. I just genuinely love her and care about her and where she is going. I love listening.

I think I've just missed getting to hang out with residents lately. The last few weeks I got really caught up in my things and doing homework and leaving to go do that, that I just missed seeing them and knowing how they were doing. I felt empty because I wasn't engaging in conversation. So it was a pleasant, filling evening.
I went to bed at 10:50pm and woke up at 10am this morning. It was much needed as the majority of the week I was drinking coffee and I stopped the last few days and drank more water, so I needed to catch up on sleep. I feel so much better and awake!

So I awoke to a text from Seth saying that Jillian (our friend) never got back to him about going to the Saturday Market, so that means I needed to go with him! I got ready and headed over to his house. We got to go thrifting where I found a pair of $5 cleats and a duffel bag for $2.25 and a book for Karl for $1.50. I'm set to play soccer for the summer! My mom sold my old pair at our garage sale, and I missed them terribly. But now I have a pair and can go play!!! So I'm excited. They fit alright, but they're a little roomy with my regular socks on, so I'll have to wear my soccer socks again.

Then we just went and meandered the Saturday Market. I love it there. It was so adorable, there were the cute little kids playing in the fountain, and all of the organic foods, we saw our statics professor there with his wife and kids, (sooo cute!!), the bands on the corners with the bass and oboe, this old couple that sings and plays music together, and group of people dancing to salsa music, and the food... yummmm. Seth and I went and got some food for my lunch/breakfast. I had blueberry pancakes and soysage. It was gluten free and vegan stuff, and I must admit it was actually pretty good. And I think that was the first time I had tofu, it was in sausage form. It was covered in maple syrup from my blueberry pancakes, so it tasted like syrup. It also had sunflower seeds in it too, which were surprisingly delicious.

And now I'm home. Gonna probably read my bible drink some tea, and then start my paper. I honestly get so much stuff done when I'm avoiding writing my paper. I'm also hoping to go to the Real Life (college campus ministry from church) BBQ this evening at 5pm.

That has been my lovely weekend of not getting work done right before finals. I hope that you are able to get out and enjoy some of the time before finals.
Thanks for reading!

  2. Haha. It was really nothing. I have $300 I need to use within the next 5 days.. otherwise the money just goes away. So it was nothing. Plus they're hilarious and I love my guys from first and third floor. :)
