Call Me Old Fashioned...
I sometimes think I wasn't born for this realm of technology. I mean, I'm pretty good at it. I can manipulate excel pretty dang well, I can navigate facebook, heck I even figured out how to make myself one of these cool blog things. However, in my heart, I love old fashioned things. The sweet smell of an old book. (Sometimes they do smell like cat pee though..I'm not talking about those books.) The beauty of a handwritten letter on cute stationary. A handmade card. Presents wrapped in newspaper. I love it.
Texting and Instant Messaging take away so much from a good conversation that could be held over tea or coffee. Granted, I don't have the best people skills,I have a large fear of public speaking and am much better at forming sentences when I can write words down, but the art writing is taken out of our use of technology. There is no respect or formalities from the words 'u' and 'lol'. Though, I'm quite guilty of this myself, I generally choose to match whatever level of interaction I receive in the first place.
Oh well. I just wanted to express the fact that I love my little things like books and letters. I got to sit and read a book while eating breakfast by myself this morning. It was quite wonderful and oh how I miss reading books for fun. I'm reading When God Writes Your Life Story by Eric and Leslie Ludy. I'm quite excited for it. I've been meaning to read it since last spring but a multitude of other books have come and gone that I've read and I own this one, so I could put off reading it. I also responded to a letter to my dear friend Katie who is far away from me this year. I miss her quite dearly and am excited to see her over the winter break. Letters can't give hugs, comfort fears or wipe away tears, and that is what I miss most.
The rain is just now starting to drizzle. Yet the clouds in the west are looming in a most threatening way. I'll probably get drenched on my walk to the library, where I'm going to study Organic Chem. My physics midterm actually went alright last night. I studied with Austin and we did really well in preparing ourselves. :) I've quite proud. My parents also transferred money to my account so I could pay of the holds on my student account. Which means I can register for classes now! Sadly, I'm taking the same math and science classes next quarter that I'm taking right now. O-Chem, Physics 213, Math 256 (differential equations) and Chem, Bio & Environmental engineering with Energy balances.
One of my teachers (Mr. Jones) told me that gold is refined by fire. From which I deemed that I must first go through hell in order to get my degree. The title seems a little out of reach for me.. "Chemical Engineer". But I won't give up on it. If you have a passion instilled in you, it may be a fight to fulfill it, but I think it'll be worth it in the end. Keep pursuing the dreams you've been given. :)

Might also take the Refiner's Fire shaping your life to be the gold that it will be in the future. Not just for classes, but also for who you will be. While the fire can burn, just remember you are still precious in God's sight, and He is just making you shine.
ReplyDeleteVery true words. Thank you for the encouragement and reminder. I really appreciate it.
